   Prof. Selahattin KAYNAK graduated from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Atatürk University. He received his MA degree from the Institute of Social Sciences and started to work as a Research Assistant at Atatürk University in 2001. In 2008, he completed his PhD with a thesis entitled The Information Economy during the Transition to an Information Society – An  Application on Turkey. In 2009 he started to work as an Assistant Professor at Bayburt University and served as the Head of Department of Economics, Vice Dean and Director of Postgraduate Studies, there.

In 2013, he was assigned to Associate Professor in the field of Economic Theory. He has studied on Natural Resource Economics at Michigan Technological University in the USA with a scholarship from the The Council of Higher Education (YÖK). In 2015, he started to work at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Ondokuz Mayıs University. In 2019, he was appointed to Samsun University as a Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. He is married with two children.

He completed his primary education at Samsun Şehit Cengiz Topel Primary School (1992) and his secondary education at Samsun Anatolian Imam Hatip High School (1999). Subsequently, he completed his undergraduate studies at Ondokuz Mayıs University, Faculty of Theology (2003) and Anadolu University, Faculty of Economics, Department of Public Administration (2005).
After completing his master’s thesis on “The Expulsion of Various Belief Groups from the Arabian Peninsula in the Context of Relevant Hadiths” at Ondokuz Mayıs University, Institute of Social Sciences (2005), he began his doctoral studies at the same institute with the topic “Problem of Understanding in the Identification and Evaluation of Hadiths” and successfully completed it (2011). His doctoral thesis was awarded the ‘Hadith and Sira Studies Award’ (2013).

He served as a visiting researcher and faculty member at the University of London, Jordan International Islamic University, University of Jordan, and Bosnia-Herzegovina University of Bihać. During his time at the University of London (September 2009 – June 2011), he also completed the master’s program titled Law, Culture, and Society at the Law School of the same university. Following this, he pursued his doctoral studies in the Department of Public Administration at Istanbul Medeniyet University.

Since 2007, Kesgin has held various academic positions including department chairmanship, assistant directorship and directorship of the graduate education institute, membership in the university board and senate, and membership in the university board of trustees. He has numerous published articles, and some of his works include: “Prophet Muhammad and the Other (Istanbul: İnsan Publishing House, 2016); The Problem of Understanding Hadiths (Istanbul: İsam, 2021 – 3rd edition); Ahkam Hadiths: Nature, Historical Process, and Literature (Istanbul: Ensar, 2022).”

He was born in 1973 in İkizdere, Rize. He completed his university education in 1997 at Ondokuz Mayıs University. In the same university, he started working as a Research Assistant in 1998 and completed his master’s degree in 2000, followed by his doctoral degree in 2004. In 2007, he started to work at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University as an Assistant Professor. At the same university, he obtained the title of Associate Professor in 2010 and then became a Professor in 2015.

At Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, he has undertaken various roles such as Deputy Rector, Vice Rector, University General Secretary, Member of TÜBİTAK BİDEB Consultation Board, Member of the Interuniversity Council, and Deputy Dean. Additionally, he has held significant positions in numerous committees and commissions including Member of the FEDEK Evaluation Team, Member of the YÖKAK Evaluation Team, Head of the BAP Commission, Quality Coordinator, Tea Specialization Coordinator, Chairman and Member of the Strategic Board of the DOKAP Region Universities Union, Department Chair and Member of the National Tea Council Advisory Board, and Member of the KÜSİ Planning and Development Board.
Since 2022, he has been working in Samsun University, Faculty of Engineering, Biomedical Engineering Department. He is married and has two children.
